According to Ralf Löber, the construction manager for building and the environment, the water flows uncontrollably due to insufficient processes, which leads to water loss. An additional channel is now to be installed to fix the problem. The goal is to put the fountains into operation by October, which would be particularly welcomed in view of the high summer temperatures.

The total costs for the beautification measures amount to 300,000 euros. The state of Hesse contributes 250,000 euros from the “Future Downtown” program, while the city brings its own funds of 50,000 euros. The laying of electricity, water and sewage pipes that cost 80,000 euros was particularly cost-intensive. This work was particularly complex because the marketplace must remain accessible to the market and other events.

An unsafe aspect of the project is the planned gastro-cube, a mobile pavilion for catering by local restaurateurs. This was significantly jeopardized by the insolvency proceedings by the responsible company. The city has already resigned from the purchase contract, and the repayment of the down payment already made remains uncertain. The city administration has declared that final clarification is only possible after the bankruptcy proceedings have been completed.
