Kassel's OB Schoeller: Airport subsidies are fatal for the climate!

Kassel's mayor Sven Schoeller once again clearly spoke out against flight operations at Kassel-Calden Airport on Friday. At a meeting with the group "Last generation", Schoeller explained that the subsidization of holiday flights was neither economically nor ecologically sensible. However, he pointed out that a required stop of the airport was not so easy to implement and that the responsibility for this was with the black and red state government in Wiesbaden. Schoeller, who is also the deputy chairman of the airport supervisory board, emphasized that there were legitimate forms of protest, but more political support is necessary to achieve the desired changes.

The “Last Generation” initiative pursued the goal of argue together for an end to the airport subsidies. The group's protests again led to traffic disruptions in the city on Friday, for example through blockages on Steinweg and Frankfurter Straße. Kassel's CDU member of the state parliament Maximilian Bathon sharply criticized Schoeller's statements and saw it a danger to the airport employees. On Friday evening, a large demonstration in front of the town hall against the subsidization of the airport is also planned, as www.hna.de
