Fast deportation? Kassel fights with rising departure

In the Kassel administrative district, there is currently a worrying problem: Around 3,000 people from abroad are subject to departure and the responsible authorities are fighting to cope with this number due to lack of personnel. The background to this situation is numerous inefficient processes and a continuous increase in the eligibility.

The case of a suspected perpetrator from Solingen, which was to be deported to Bulgaria in 2023, received special attention. The reason for the failed deportation was the inability of the authorities to organize the transfer within the legally required period of six months. This situation has re -enacted the debate about the return of foreigners because it illustrates how the challenges in the administration lead to delays.

increasing figures of the people who are obliged to leave out

The situation in the Kassel region has tightened. An estimated 2000 people already lived there in March. This number has now increased to around 3000, which is alarming. These people must either be moved to the voluntary departure or, if not succeeded, will be deported. This increases the likelihood that many of these people will have to expect deportation in the near future.

The difficulties are no less because the responsible department for foreigners' law at the Kassel regional council is under considerable pressure. Despite these challenges, the RP Kassel has recorded some positive developments. Between January and July, the number of voluntary return trips rose from 180 in 2023 to 361 in 2024. This was done through intensive return consultations that should help those affected to find perspectives in their home country, including possible funding for the reconstruction of existence.

But where there is light, there is often also shadow. Anyone who refuses to travel voluntarily faces impending deportations. The number of these deportations has also risen from 159 in 2023 to 201 in 2024 in just half a year. The pressure on the authorities is growing to cope with the problem more efficiently.

In addition, the savings prescribed by Hessen calls for their long -known tribute. The department for immigration law is already overloaded in the operation and is difficult to follow with the 40 places assigned to them. This led to tensions within the authority in spring. Nevertheless, all temporary bodies were initially extended until the end of 2024 to cope with the workload at short notice.

The common working group intensive offenders, who was launched in 2018, also focused on the deportation of foreigners who have become criminal. The authorities work together to make the return faster and more sustainable. Since the foundation of this group, over 500 people have been deported from the relevant group of people, but no specific figures on the remaining endangers have been published.
