Forbidden pollutants in sunscreen: warning for adults and children
Forbidden pollutants in sunscreen: warning for adults and children
study again reveals plasticizers in sunscreen - should consumers be worried?
The recent examinations of "Öko-Test" have shown that not only sunscreens for children , but also products for adults contained questionable pollutants. Of the 19 tested sunscreens for adults, eight rehearsals showed the forbidden plasticizer di-n-hexylphthalat (DNHEXP), which is classified by the EU as harmful to health. This plasticizer can have a negative impact on the reproductive ability and is prohibited in the EU for cosmetics.
According to the experts, contamination of the chemical UV filter DHHB from which DNHEXP can be created can be "unavoidable" when producing sunscreen. However, Öko-Test calls on the manufacturers to search for alternatives to this filter in order to avoid the load on plasticizers. Some sunscreen showed traces of the plasticizer, but there is no reason to panic, emphasizes the deputy editor -in -chief Katja Tölle.
recommendations and alternatives for consumers
In view of these results, Öko-Test recommends consumers to carefully check the ingredients of sunscreens. If a product contains the UV filter DHHB, certified natural cosmetics can be used, which excludes chemical UV filters. Despite the finds, Öko-Test emphasizes the importance of sun protection, since UV radiation is still the main cause of skin cancer.Selection of the best sunscreen in the test
- Sunozon Sonnenpray LSF 30, Rossmann, 1.95 euros/100 ml
- Sun d’Or Sonnenspray Transparent LSF 30, Edeka, 2.15 euros/100 ml
The brand Annemarie Börlind Sun Care cut in the test with the highest content of DNHEXP, but these were traces that are not an immediate danger. The tests show that, despite the questionable finds, consumers should not do without skin protection in order to minimize the risk of skin cancer.
The questioning of the ingredients of cosmetics and sunscreens is therefore of great value to protect your own health. A conscious selection of products and, if necessary, the switch to alternative, more natural options can help to avoid potentially harmful chemicals and to optimally maintain the skin.
