The 19-year-old center forward came to Frankfurt from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer of 2023. At his performance, Alexander Richter, the head of the young performance center, praised Mazzone's skills: "With Matteo Mazzone, we were able to win an offensive player for us who fits our U19 with his style of play and can play into focus with the eagle on the chest for the men's area." In the 2023/24 season, Mazzone showed promising services in the U19 of Eintracht. He scored three goals with 23 missions and gave three templates. In the preparation, he scored strong four goals in test games at the U21, which is trained by ex-professional player Makoto Hasebe. Nevertheless, he was denied the jump into the mandatory games of the U21, which may have had a negative impact on his development.

The path of Mazzone began in Wolfsburg, where it was trained in the VfL junior department. His performance in the U17 was particularly impressive, where he scored twelve goals in ten games. This led to an ascent to the U19, where he was also able to gain experience at an international level, including at the UEFA Youth League.

Another moving chapter in his career was his choice of the national team. Mazzone started with the Italian U18, but later decided to play for the Australian national team. This decision was expressed in two goals in three games for the U20 national team of the "Socceroos", which demonstrates its versatility and skills at an international level.

The move to Kiel

Now, just a year after moving to Eintracht Frankfurt, Mazzone is drawn back to his northern German homeland at Holstein Kiel. This step could be a new chance for him to prove itself at a higher level and to gain a foothold in both the regional league and possibly in the professional area. It remains to be seen whether he creates the breakthrough in Kiel - the expectations are high, especially according to the services already shown in the U19 and the test games.
