Sad turn: Bio-supermarket Erdkorn in Kiel closes its doors!

Sad turn: Bio-supermarket Erdkorn in Kiel closes its doors!

Kiel. On Saturday, September 14, at 4 p.m., branch manager Thomas Kramer will close the shop. A major question mark is now being set on a sales area of 250 square meters, which could remain unused in the future. What will become of the small warehouse that was part of the market so far? This question hovers like a shadow in the air!

But there is also good news! The other earth grain branches in Holtenauer Straße and Hopfenstraße behind the Sophienhof remain open to all organic fans. "The two branches are going well," announced company spokeswoman Beke Bornemann proudly. The organic trade continues to bloom here-much to the delight of regular customers!

unplanned closure due to financial problems!

The cause of the tragic end of the Earth grain market in Schloßstrasse is clear: economic reasons! "The rental agreement expires in November," explains Bornemann, "and we decided not to extend it." A clear sign that the market did not develop as desired. Since the opening in November 2019, it has been a challenge to move customers to the biowned. "The district had to develop positively to carry a organic supermarket," continued Bornemann. But the concept of "extended promenade" in the Burgviertel did not bring the hoped -for success. Another sign: there is a lot of vacancy in the old town.

loyal customers-but too few!

"We had loyal customers," admits branch manager Kramer. "But not enough!" The 38-year-old entrepreneur knows that a large part of his buyers consisted of working people who work in the district during the day. At the weekend, however, the customer current seemed to be failed. Only the lunch table was very well received, even if that is not the main business of Earth grain.

To use the remaining days until closure, the market grants a 10 percent discount on everything by Saturday! One last call to all organic lovers to make their last purchases. After the closure, branch manager Kramer will move to Hopfenstraße - a little ray of hope in this dark time.

The future continues to look at the other earth grain locations in northern Germany, which now count a total of 14 instead of the previous 15 branches. The history of the Earth grain chain goes back to 2001 when it was founded in Hamburg. Where will the Earth grain family develop now-while the Burgviertel has to do without the organic supermarket?
