Wolves in Schleswig-Holstein: Landtag loosens protection status massively!
Kiel, Deutschland - The state parliament in Kiel decided on Friday that the wolf in Schleswig-Holstein will only classify as a "protected" animal instead of "strictly protected". This decision follows the approval of the EU representatives at the end of September, which also approved a weakening of the wolf protection. Some applications from the FDP, which demanded inventory management and the possibility of hunting the wolf and the creation of wolf -free zones, failed in parliament.
Environment Minister Tobias Goldschmidt (Greens) pointed out that no Wolfshybrids have been demonstrated in Schleswig-Holstein and emphasized that good handling of the wolf population was already available. According to a survey, three quarters of the Germans believe that wolves belong to the landscape. The Environment Minister also found that there have been only three wolf cracks in Schleswig-Holstein this year, and criticized the idea of exterminating the wolf as inappropriate according to information from www.ndr.de .
