Bruno Schmitz defends controversial appearance by Luke Mockridge in Weeze

The appearance of Luke Mockridge in Weeze remains on the program despite the massive outrage and cancellation of other organizers. The comedian had come under criticism after he made a derogatory manner in August about the disability sport, which triggered a storm of indignation on social media. Bruno Schmitz, head of the Niederrhein Cultural Office, decided to have the event on October 10th takes place and decidedly reject the online hostility against Mockridge.

In an interview, Schmitz said that he rated Mockridges's statements as an “absolute no-go”, but also emphasized that a public witch hunt was not acceptable. He does not see Mockridge as a danger to society and wants to give him the opportunity to apologize and to conduct a dialogue with the audience. Schmitz makes it clear: "For me these are two different things!" This decision provides discussions, while other organizers have already deleted their appearances.
