Concordia Goch strives for new heights in the district league B

The Concordia Goch is an integral part of the football scene in the district league B Kleve/Geldern. Last season 2022/23, under the direction of player coach André Küppers, the team again showed considerable performances.

growing success of the Concordia

Over the course of last season, the team was able to rise to group 1 with 60 points and a goal difference of 82:47 and completed the league in fourth place again. This represents the fourth best offensive and the second best defensive in the league. "We were able to continuously increase," commented the 31-year-old Küppers. He is the backbone of the team and scored ten goals himself last season.

impressive derby performances

The Concordia Goch has impressively demonstrated that it does not have to shy away from strong opponents. Special highlights were the 2-0 victory in the derby against the later champion Viktoria Goch II and a convincing 4: 0 against the second in the table TuS Kranenburg. There were two draws in the encounters against the reserve of Alemannia Pfalzdorf II. "We can be a little proud that we have not lost a single Gocher Derby. We got 30 points in every round. This testifies to a certain resistance," continues Küppers.

The look ahead: squad development and ambitions

For the coming season, Concordia plans to play again among the top teams in the league. The squad comprises 21 field players and three goalkeepers. The departure of the Spaniard Matias Ezequiel Navarro, who enriched the offensive with nine goals, and the time-out of his compatriot Manuel Velarde Rojas are challenges. In the team, defenders Louis Schaap by Alemannia Pfalzdorf III and striker Jannik Curdt, who was most recently active in the A-League. In addition, Raphael Wallrafen is expected after a long injury break, which can be seen as an additional incentive for the team. Goal hunter Nils Huismann, who scored 20 goals last season, is said to take on a key role in the offensive game, supported by experienced players such as René Schneider, who can continue to set important accents at 39. Captain Torben Koch, who impresses at 2.05 meters in height, is considered the safe penalty shooter of the team.

The challenge of youth work

Despite the overall positive development, there are only limited perspectives for future talents. A significant disadvantage for the Concordia is the lack of an A-youth team from which young people could move up for the first team. "We would like to confirm the good performance that we showed last season and end up in the upper third," added Küppers. The concordia looks optimistic about the challenge of competing against the strong teams of the league, especially the top -fitting TuS Kranenburg and Alemannia Pfalzdorf II.
