Scandal for fake skulls: Focus on Rhineland-Palatinate!
At Koblenz, a sensational scandal comes to light: The discovery of human skulls from the fifth century BC could be fake! The Rhineland-Palatinate Secretary of State Simone Schneider speaks of a suspicious state official who is said to have manipulated archaeological finds for years. A disciplinary investigation against the archaeologist of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage (GDKE) is underway, while the presumption of innocence applies.
An external check has shown that at least 21 skulls or their fragments were dated incorrectly. Only two of the finds could actually date from the fifth century, all others are considerably younger, sometimes from the Middle Ages or modern times. The dizziness was revealed by a confidential request from a university, which registered doubts about the civil servant's dissertation. In order to avert further scientific damage, the public is now informed, while all outstanding finds of the GDKE are checked, starting in Koblenz.
