In a recent survey by the men's magazine on the Romeo dating platform, 22.3 percent of the gay men gave the AfD to choose, followed by CDU/CSU with 20.6 percent. These figures are contrasting with the total population, in which the AfD achieved over 30 percent in the last state elections in Thuringia and Saxony. Despite the repeated homoof-owned statements by AfD politicians, as known by the top candidate Maximilian Krah, some homosexual voters show approval of the party. Experts raise the question of how such support can be explained despite the obvious antipathy towards queer people.

According to Katharina Hajek, a political scientist, the AfD positions itself as a "homonational party". It combines gender policy and migration policy by representing migration as a source of misogyny and sexual violence. This approach could be well received in certain parts of the queer community, which also explains the position of prominent AfD politicians such as Alice Weidel. These often refer to personal security and a “foreign” influence perceived as a threat.
