The 50+ generation: departure into the now and emancipation from being altitude

The generation of baby boomers, that specific age group of currently between 50 and 70 year olds, is often mocked by younger ones than the "boomer". Totally unfair when you see how dynamic and confident this generation looks at life! It is time to take a closer look at their perspectives. A new study by the Rheingold Institute in Cologne has given interesting insights into the feelings of life of this generation, which experienced the strongest year of birth in post-war history six decades ago.

carried out on behalf of the WITT textile group, the investigation includes 65 deep psychological interviews, paired with a representative survey. The results show surprising approaches and settings. This generation, often as "being" stigmatized, complains more about the inability to express its joie de vivre. Instead of great life crises, many see the phase of aging as an opportunity. A new attitude to life, which is characterized by self -realization and striving for individual needs, becomes clear. The researchers describe the 50-plus generation as a "now!" Generation that pays much more attention to their own wishes.

As an important knowledge of the study, the self -image of the respondents must be emphasized: Many feel that the term of age is usually well above their current age. While women only feel “old” from the age of 72.4, the limit for men is 68.6 years. The loss of autonomy and physical restrictions for three quarters of the respondents are considered a characteristic of the old. The recapture of life and the pursuit of independence are of central importance in this phase of life.

Another bright spot of the study is the value of friendship within this generation: On average, the participants were able to name eight friends, three of whom are considered close friends. An impressive 89 percent stated that they could rely on their friendships. The relationship life is also multifaceted; About 31 percent of the respondents live as singles, while two thirds are in stable relationships - most people manage to find their partnership fulfilling.

But the uncompromisingness of this generation is also evident in the relationship of relationships: dissatisfaction in a relationship no longer leads to perseverance, but to a rethink. The open -mindedness for new relationship models improves quality of life. Experts from the study report that this generation is willing to question traditional ideas and also break new ground without meticulously committed to certain life models.

The remarkable insights from the interviews also show the desire for self -fulfillment. Unlike many of their peers from previous generations, the baby boomers are actively looking for new challenges and opportunities. For example, a 67-year-old surveyed plans to list a comedy program, while a 55-year-old woman is thinking about going abroad as a grandmother auvair. This variety of ideas demonstrates how flexible and adaptable they have remained.

The challenges of the current time, such as climate change and economic turbulence, often seem to be displaced. Rheingold founder Stephan Grünewald describes this trend as a sign of the zeitgeist. The generation 50 plus lives in a kind of "stoppage time" in which the focus is on pursuit of individual joy and participation.

Overall, the study is a welcome encouragement to think about age beyond classic clichés. It shows that the baby boomers are ready to take the reins of their lives in their hands and to actively deal with their own reality of life. This generation shows that age is not the end of joie de vivre and - with the right approach - is not even the end of new beginnings.
