EU supplementary duties on electric cars: China is pushing for a quick solution with Brussels!
Despite the new EU supplementary duties on electric cars from China, Beijing remains optimistic and strives for a negotiating solution with Brussels. The Ministry of Commerce in Beijing expressed the wish that the EU could "quickly find a solution that is acceptable for both sides" in order to avoid escalation of the trade conflicts. China criticized the anti-subsidy investigation carried out by the EU as unfair and announced that it would take all the necessary measures to protect Chinese companies.
The new tariffs came into force at midnight and apply for five years. The EU Commission justifies this decision with the unfair advantages that Chinese manufacturers have received due to subsidies on the European market. While most EU countries agreed to the introduction of tariffs, Germany voted against a trade conflict against the measure. Despite the entry into force of the tariffs, the negotiations continue at the technical level, hoping to achieve a mutual solution. Electric car dealers could possibly avoid increasing tariffs through price obligations, which could prove to be the key to solving the conflict. You can find out more about this here .
