Customs finds 17,800 untrained cigarettes on Friesoyther flea market

Oldenburg/Friesoythe

At a flea market in Friesoythe, there was a remarkable incident last Saturday when customs officers from the Oldenburg and Papenburg control units came across a considerable amount of unsaxed cigarettes during a routine check. A total of 17,800 cigarettes that did not meet the state tax requirements were ensured, which resulted in tax damage of around 3,250 euros.

The customs officers were attentive and noticed how a seller took a rod from her cooling bag. This immediately aroused their interest and they carried out a detailed control of the stand. This measure turned out to be extremely successful, because the cooling bag already contained 3,400 untrained cigarettes.

warning and discovery

But the situation continued to escalate: While the customs officers made the search, the seller tried to warn a neighboring stand, but this was not unnoticed. The customs officers recognized the danger and also went to the previously warned sales booth. Another considerable amount of smuggling cigarettes was discovered there: 14,400 pieces that were properly packed in sports bags and stored on the loading area of a small van.

The incident not only resulted in the immediate securing of the cigarettes, but also led to the initiation of corresponding tax criminal proceedings due to tax stone shop against those involved. Frank Mauritz, spokesman for the main customs office of Oldenburg, explains the critical situation: "Our customs officers were attentive and kept our eyes open. Thanks to this vigilance, we were not only able to ensure the cigarettes, but also prevent potential further violations."

The cigarettes were immediately secured, and the tax collectors raised a security deposit in the amount of the tax damage determined.

This case underlines the immense importance of customs controls in markets and other sales outlets in order to contain illegal trade in untracted goods. The customs officers are continuously working to ensure that the statutory tax regulations are observed. This not only protects public order, but also contribute to ensuring fair competitive conditions for lawful dealers.

The campaign was a clear success in the combat of tax offenses and shows that the work of the customs authorities is of great importance in order to protect the integrity of the market. These measures are necessary in order to counter the phenomenon of tax fraud, which not only damages the state, but also the legal merchants and society as a whole.
