A 68-year-old driver was at the wheel of her Hyundai when she was traveling from Kupferberg towards Ludwigschorgast at 3 p.m. on the federal road 289. At the junction to the B 303, she made the decision without bending on the left, although the traffic rules stipulated that she had to grant right of way. This disregard for the right of way has had serious consequences.

The course of the accident

A truck that came from the left and added to the intersection at full speed had to initiate an immediate braking to avoid an impact with the Hyundai. This sudden braking led to a Dacia, who was directed by a 28-year-old man, crashed into the truck because he could not prevent a rear-end collision despite his braking attempts. The driver and his companion were on their way to the Bud Spencer Festival in Ilmenau and experienced this unexpected and tragic turn of their trip.

The two occupants of the Dacia suffered injuries that indicated a possible cervical spine syndrome and bruises. They were immediately taken to the hospital with an ambulance. Fortunately, the truck driver, a 51-year-old man, was only slightly injured and was able to continue his journey.
