Neubrandenburg outrigger team celebrates historical victory at the Rugia Hoe Festival
At this year's Outrigger regatta on the island of Rügen, the team Pollo/PSV 90 canoe from Neubrandenburg caused a sensation and secured the overall victory, despite difficult weather conditions. The 8th Rugia Hoe Festival was a challenge for all teams involved, but the Neubrandenburgers managed to impressively increase their performance.
Challenges and team spirit
The first stage started with high waves and strong wind, which endangered the safety of the participants. Five of the eight boats started had to cancel the race prematurely. These adverse circumstances and the fact that only three boats came to the finish led to a historical moment: The organizers and teams decided together not to evaluate the first stage. Team captain Franz Polchow praised the fairness and cohesion among the teams that worked in this situation to ensure fair and safe competition conditions.
A victory after setbacks
After the setback on the first stage, the team Pollo/PSV found 90 canoe on the second and third stage back to its shape and was able to drive out for over three minutes on the middle section. The skillful strategy and commitment paid off, and they brought the overall victory to the finish line, followed by a Berliner and a Frankfurt boat.
The look ahead
Organizer Mike Rolle, who even paddled in the Neubrandenburg boat, expressed his satisfaction about the course of the festival. For the team from Neubrandenburg, this victory was not only a reward for hard work and team spirit, but also an important preparation for the upcoming big race, the 20th Neubrandenburg Outrigger regatta on September 7th at the TolleSesee.
Community and sports spirit in focus
The 8th Rugia Hoe Festival not only showed the amazing skills of the athletes, but also the power of the community. The decision not to evaluate the first stage was a strong sign of fairness and camaraderie in sports. The Neubrandenburgers are now a pioneer in the Outrigger community and show how important team spirit is in difficult times.
