New architecture project in Siegen: Old printing company becomes NAS!

The design of the Berlin architecture firm Fact in cooperation with Gustav Düsing was selected as the winner of a dialog -oriented award procedure for the new architecture school in Siegen (NAS). This is evident from reports of the University of Siegen . The planned building will be built on the site of the former print house of the Siegener Zeitung and is intended to convince with an innovative architecture.

The NAS is nominated for the renowned Polis Award 2025 in the category "Pulse-related phase null". This price format has been characterized by a decade of future -oriented projects in urban planning and is particularly relating to preparatory planning processes. Professor Dr. Thorsten Erl from the Department of Architecture of the University of Siegen is delighted with the nomination and hopes that she can give an impulse for the implementation of the university construction.

The winning project

The design of the architecture firm Fact and Gustav Düsing, who won the competition, provides for an expansion of the two-storey washing concrete skeleton building from the 1970s. Two additional wooden floors are planned, supplemented by a filigree steel structure, which is largely stressed on train. This construction was developed in cooperation with the renowned engineering group Schlaich Bergermann partner from Stuttgart.

The facade of the new building is partially removed and the washing concrete slabs are to be reused. The spatial and climate concept approach provides for natural ventilation by vertical openings, supported by the company Transsolar. The design promotes openness and flexibility, especially in the so-called "cloud space" under the roof, as well as on the fully open ground floor, which are designed for creative teaching and learning environments.

competitions and deadlines

Furthermore, the NAS is also the focus of the German Architecture Prize 2025 which the Federal Architect Chamber is awarded becomes. Exemplary buildings with outstanding architectural quality are to be awarded here. The competition already has several important deadlines: the projects are selected until the 19th calendar week 2025, and the deadline for submitting documents ends on March 25, 2025, at 4 p.m.
