Augsburger Hof in Landsberg: refugee accommodation or hotel?

In Landsberg, the Augsburger Hof is the focus of intensive discussions: The well -known hotel company could soon accommodate unaccompanied minor refugees because the district urgently is looking for accommodation. So far, hotelier Michael Buchheim has run the house for over 14 years and has also housed unaccompanied minors. But the district's most recent request to buy or lease the building takes it to a dilemma. "The end is close," says Buchheim, who feels increasing interest from several sides.

The district currently has 52 minor asylum seekers, many of whom cannot find any accommodation. According to district spokesman Wolfgang Müller, the Augsburger Hof could take up two residential groups with ten to twelve people each. However, whether the hotel is used as a youth welfare facility depends on structural measures and urban permits. At the same time, the SPD/FDP parliamentary group would like to assert the city's right to advance in order to secure both the accommodation for the refugees and the hotel rooms for the neighboring city theater. A race around the Augsburger Hof? The future of the traditional house is uncertain. For more information, see the current reporting on www.merkur.de .
