Joyful occasion at the lions - the Löwenquartet celebrates its first birthday in the Leipzig

zoo

A special day breaks in the Leipzig zoo, because the four young lions Malu, Bahati, Themba and Amaru, descendants of the proud Löwin Kigali, celebrate their first birthday today. The zoo lovingly prepared the Savanne Makasi Simba for the celebrations and placed a "1" of delicacies, which the young lions explored with enthusiasm. Mother Kigali supported the young animals in exploration and visibly enjoyed the festive atmosphere. According to zoo director Prof. Jörg Junhold, the young lions have developed splendidly and all show individual character traits that make them a unique rascals.

The four lion boys not only developed physically well, but also matured in their behaviors. Malu is considered a mums darling, while Themba, the strongest in the group, is happy to stand out. Amaru is confident and independent, while Bahati is described as curious and open to new experiences. The zookeepers Johanna Schumacher emphasize the individual properties of the young animals that make the quartet a diverse and lively group.

The time of farewell is closer, because in nature young lions separate from their parents in the second year. This step will also come in the Leipzig zoo, with Kigalis daughter staying at her side. The three male young animals, on the other hand, are expected to leave the zoo to go their own way. Zoo Director Prof. Junhold explains that this is a necessary measure, since Kigali would not tolerate any other adult lions in the group in the long term. With a forward -looking look, the zoo would like to ensure that the young animals come into suitable hands and that the genetic pool for lion farming will continue to be secured in the future.

The celebrations for the first birthday of the Löwenquartet not only bring joy, but also the reality of natural replacement in the wildlife. Despite the farewell, the day is a festival of life and the development that reminds visitors to the Leipzig zoo about how important it is to protect and preserve the wildlife.
