Cometa view and star dust: Astronomy Day inspires Eilenburg!

Last Saturday, the sisters Maria and Anna Güther from Leipzig experienced a special detour during their family outing: the observatory on the Mansberg in Eilenburg. On the occasion of the Astronomy Day in 2024, the sky researchers had invited the visitors to enjoy the spectacle in the sky. The focus was particularly on the spectacular comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-Atlas, which was visible with the naked eye, as well as an impressive super moon. Over 100 interested parties followed the exciting lectures by Himmel expert and used the opportunity to look through telescopes.

Despite the full lecture rooms and great anticipation for the comet observation, the weather did not play along: a cloudy sky clouded the view of the nightly starry sky. Nevertheless, the enthusiasm of the visitors was unbroken while they discussed the comet and hoped to spot him over the clouds. Many were impressed by the experiences of astrophotographer Marco Gährig, who had seen the comets in Australia. "We were unlucky with the clouds, but it was still interesting," said a satisfied Maria Güther. According to www.lvz.de , additional observation evenings are planned from November, which further increases the anticipation for future astronomy events.
