Leipzig's labor market in the crisis: unemployment increases dramatically!
Leipzig, Deutschland - Unemployment in Leipzig experienced a worrying increase in October. With 27,069 unemployed, the city recorded an increase of 486 people compared to the previous month and 3,247 compared to the previous year. The unemployment rate is now 7.9 percent, a significant increase of 7.1 percent in the previous year. The Leipzig Employment Agency reports that the usual autumn revitalization has failed to do so this year and that all industries are affected by the increase in unemployment.
The number of reported jobs has also dropped. In October there were 7,483 vacancies, which is 1,991 less than in the previous year - a decrease of 21 percent. Employers reported 1,145 new jobs, which corresponds to a decline of 17 percent compared to the previous year. The problem of young talent is particularly worrying: the number of reported training positions has dropped to 2,578, which corresponds to 595 less than in the previous year. 252 of these training positions are currently vacant. The employment agency emphasizes that despite the challenges, there are still opportunities for young people to find an apprenticeship. Further details are here to be found.
