Air quality in Leipzig: Alarming values endanger health!
In Leipzig there are alarming news about air quality! Measurement stations in Leipzig-Mitte show that the fine dust values are becoming increasingly problematic. The limit value for fine dust is 50 micrograms per cubic meter of air-this may be exceeded a maximum of 35 times each year, otherwise drastic countermeasures must be taken to avert EU penalties. The current measurements show that the air in the city is often "bad" or even "very bad", which carries health risks. In the worst case, this can even have fatal consequences for particularly sensitive people!
Air quality is measured based on three significant values: fine dust, ozone and nitrogen dioxide. If one of these values exceeds the specified limit values - especially beyond the critical 100 μg/m³ for fine dust - the situation is classified as very bad. The health authorities warn: If you are one of the sensitive groups, you should avoid physical activities outdoors to protect yourself from possible negative health effects. In the EU, around 240,000 premature deaths are due to fine dust annually, which underlines the urgency of the problem. Further information can be found here .
