Jonathan Tah: No contract extension at Bayer Leverkusen

Jonathan Tah, the talented central defender of the Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, has made a decisive decision regarding his future. The 28-year-old, whose contract expires next summer, has explained Klipp and clearly that he will not extend it. In recent interviews, he also expressed how much the vertebrae has burdened him in this transfer period. "In some moments" he even felt "like a game ball", Tah told the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

The situation became complicated after the club management of Bayer Leverkusen spoke to him after last season. One thing was clear: he should decide whether he would like to extend his contract or leave the association. "That was the starting point," said the former U21 international, who finally told the club that an extension was out of the question for him. "I did everything a player can do: to communicate my wishes clearly and openly," he added. However, he had no influence on the negotiations between his current club and FC Bayern, which turned out to be difficult.

an unexpected rumor in the transfer market

The talks between Bavaria and Leverkusen did not agree, which led to a dispute between Bayer Boss Fernando Carro and FCB sports director Max Eberl. Criticism and various offers demanded their toll, but in the end there was no solution. Tah himself would have liked things that things would be calmer and more rational. "There were rumors and speculations - and in the end the player suffers," he said. Despite a glamorous life as a professional, he says that constant uncertainty is a challenge: "We players are doing excellently, not misunderstanding, but in such a situation you are dependent as a player and have no control."

These ambiguities about his future have also affected his well -deserved free time after the European Championship and before the new season. "After such a long and exhausting season, you just want to be man Jonathan Tah on vacation, not the footballer Jonathan Tah," he said. But the constant attention makes it difficult for him to switch off.

At the moment he has decided to put all the energy in his tasks in Leverkusen. Tah's clear message is that he will use his time until 2025: "I have been here for nine years and have the feeling that I was winning the championship and the DFB Cup." It is important for him to exploit everything that is possible in his short career: "I just want to exhaust the potential that is in my career."

It remains to be seen which way Jonathan Tah will take after his time in Leverkusen. For the moment, however, his focus is clearly on his team and the upcoming challenges in the new season.
