New research project to combat blood cancer - Prof. Fischer appointed as a senior professor
Magdeburg. A groundbreaking development in the field of cancer research: Prof. Dr. med. Thomas Fischer, renowned cancer researcher, will be appointed as the first senior professor at the medical faculty of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg. His groundbreaking research in the treatment of malignant blood diseases is further advanced while he is intensively committed to young scientists.
The 66-year-old Fischer explains: "The search for new knowledge in medicine has always motivated me. So I am pleased to continue to be able to contribute to the development of the medical faculty through my senior professorship."
The focus of his new research project is to research the molecular causes of excessive inflammatory reactions and the development of thrombosis in certain forms of blood cancer. These examinations could lead to more effective diagnostic and therapy approaches in the future.
The Dean of the Medical Faculty, Prof. Dr. Daniela C. Dieterich, praises Fischer's commitment and success in research and teaching as a model for students and employees. Also Prof. Dr. Dimitrios Mougiakakos shows enthusiasm for further cooperation with Fischer in Cancer Research.
Prof. Fischer had already been appointed to the University of Magdeburg 15 years ago and has since contributed significantly to the development of university medicine. With its support, the allogeneic stem cell transplantation for the treatment of malignant blood diseases was introduced and the Magdeburg University Clinic was certified as an oncological center.
In addition to his success in research, Prof. Fischer was also honored for his promotion of young talent. Through his initiative, a training college for Clinician Scientists was launched to enable young medical professionals to combine clinical practice and research.
The special appreciation of Prof. Fischer through the senior professorship shows that even scientists in retirement can continue to make a significant contribution to medical research. The Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg rehearses outstanding research and interprets experienced experts actively in teaching and research.
We are looking forward to the new findings that Prof. Fischer and his team will win in the coming years and hope for further progress in the treatment of blood cancer.
