The terrible dry spell for crab lovers could soon come to an end! Fischer in Schleswig-Holstein suspects that the technology for catching the fan does not remain forever. Despite the dark fishing numbers, a touch of optimism is spreading! More and more crabs could soon get into the cooling shelves of the discounter.

The sad reality, however, is that consumers still have to wait for affordable prices. "Now the meat has to be peeled," explains an insider. But waiting could be worth it! While the decisive processing step takes place in Morocco, the question remains when the crabs are finally tangible again. A word of the council: patience!

The fishermen on the Schleswig-Holstein coast do not have it easy this summer. Compared to the colleagues in Lower Saxony, the catches in August decline significantly. A real shock! With just 6000 tons that were landed in 2023, the comparison to the glorious years 2000 to 2015, when it was almost twice as much, remained painful in memory.

Although August brought little hope, the season in autumn, as in the previous year, could enable fishermen to have an unexpected comeback. "Maybe September and October can ensure good catch again," Oberdörffer surprises the community! What happens when the discounters finally add crabs to the range again? Anticipation is the order of the day, because some restaurants in the north have already had to increase prices - a crab roll can now cost up to 15 euros!
