In Oedeme, an important milestone for the community was recently achieved: the opening of the “Oasis” district house. This new center was the result of years of efforts by the local community to create a central place for encounters. The festive occasion took place last Saturday and was celebrated with a large inauguration festival, musical performances by the Fanfarenzug Oedeme and the Lüneburg band Ocean’s Daughter.
The importance of the construction project for the community
The district house "Oasis" (Oedeme actively discovering socially) not only offers space for social activities, but also acts as an important location for education, events and political meetings. The facility will house the youth center in particular and has created a lot of space for various district work with 400 square meters of usable space. The large hall on the ground floor is prepared for political meetings and can also be used for further events.

The construction of the district house was not without challenges. An earlier opening date was originally planned, but there were delays due to additional requirements and personnel bottlenecks in the craft. These hurdles were a major challenge for the community, which has always held up the desire for a new community center.

This day not only marks the inauguration of a building, but also symbolizes a new chapter in the history of Oedemes, which is characterized by community initiative and commitment. The path to this new location began in 2013 when the loss of the Jägerhof was perceived as the central meeting point for the residents. The initiative of Christel John, who made an application for the district house in the local council, was crucial for the implementation of this project.The district house now offers a home for the citizens of Oedeme and will surely become a pulsating meeting point for all generations in the coming years. It is an example of how communal visions can be implemented in local politics.
