In Mainz, a decisive meeting of the state examination committee with regard to the devastating flood disaster in the Ahr Valley will be a decisive meeting on Thursday about three years ago. The members of the committee advise on the final report, which also includes the statements of the various political groups and is to be presented to the public after the summer break in September.

The committee, which has met a total of 46 times, is intended to clarify whether the extreme weather conditions in the fateful night from July 14th to 15th, 2021 were foreseeable in advance. At that time, the tragedy in the Ahrtal called for the life of at least 135 people.

After today's meeting, Martin Haller will be given a statement by the SPD faction and Markus Klein from the CDU, the committee chair and his deputy. This is to be informed about the results of the session and the further course of the procedure. The final report is expected to include several volumes and include over 2,000 pages, based on the findings of more than 200 witness surveys and the creation of over 7000 protocol pages.

The main task of the committee of inquiry was to examine the events during the flood disaster and to clarify political responsibility for the tragic events. The result of these lengthy examinations is eagerly awaited.
