Burning car on A63: driver remains unharmed, roadway damaged

On Wednesday afternoon, a serious incident occurred on the A63 towards Alzey: a BMW 3 Series of station wagon ignited and led to considerable traffic disruptions. As the Mainz traffic directorate announced, the ride and departure of the Wörrstadt junction had to be closed until further notice.

The police received an emergency call during the afternoon, which drew attention to a burning vehicle near the Wörrstadt exit. When the emergency services arrived, the car was already on fire, but the 55-year-old driver was very lucky: he was able to save himself from the vehicle in time and was unharmed.

extinguishing work and traffic restrictions

The fire brigade was quickly on site to fight the flames, but the extinguishing work required the complete blocking of the descends and driveways towards Alzey. According to the police statements, this lock is expected to stop until around 9:30 p.m. However, the flowing traffic on the main lane could be diverted without major problems.

The fire not only caused damage to the vehicle, but also affected the Wörrstadt exit. In addition to the amounts of extinguishing water, operating materials of the vehicle also flowed into the adjacent green strips. For this reason, a special company from Worms was hired to check the soil for possible environmental pollution.

cause of the fire and damage determination

The police investigation indicated that a technical defect in the vehicle could have been responsible for the fire. The total damage caused by the incident is estimated at around 50,000 euros. This incident underlines the need for regular vehicle expectations and the mindfulness of the drivers to avoid similar situations.

Overall, it turns out that despite the dramatic circumstances, the driver was unharmed. The police and fire brigade reacted quickly and effectively to eliminate the dangers and release traffic as soon as possible. Such incidents remind us of how important security is on our streets and that we are all responsible to be safe.
