Heat warning in Mainz: Health risks at temperatures above 30 degrees

The German Weather Service (DWD) announced an official heat warning for the Mainz and Rheinhessen region on Sunday, September 1st. The warning applies to the period from Sunday at 11 a.m. to Monday at 7 p.m. and affects heights of up to 400 meters. During this time the temperatures can increase as far as the vast majority of the residents are concerned.

It is particularly crucial that the DWD outputs heat warnings when the actual or felt temperature increases above 30 degrees Celsius. Such temperatures represent a health risk, especially for vulnerable groups, such as older people and children. If you tend to react sensitively to heat, you should be particularly careful, since the body can be overloaded with persistent high temperatures.

advice from the weather experts

In order to avoid health problems, the DWD advises to avoid the heat if possible. This means that in the cooler time of day you should go outside or visit shady places. Sufficient fluid intake is just as important. Drinking water should be a priority, since the body sweats more and needed at high temperatures.

In addition, it is advisable to keep the interiors of the apartment cool. A continuous ventilation in the early morning before the outside temperatures rise again can help. Especially during the day, direct sunlight should be kept away by closed curtains or blinds to minimize the heating of the rooms.

The current weather situation shows how important it is to pay attention to yourself and take preventive measures to protect health. Heat waves are no longer uncommon, and the associated risks must be taken seriously.
