Clothing chaos in Mainz: Fast fashion flooded old clothing container!
Steingasse 3-9, 55116 Mainz, Deutschland - Overflowing old clothing containers in Mainz are an alarm sign! The city reports of a chaotic situation where numerous sacks full of unused clothing crush the containers. The reason? Personnel failures due to illness at the municipal waste management Mainz, which meant that the regular disposal routes could not be fully operated. But don't panic: the collection is now running smoothly again after the missed routes have been made up.
The questions raised, however, are burning: Where does all this clothing come from? A decisive factor is the consumer frenzy heated by almost fashion - many people donate good to do good to buy cheap new clothes at the same time. The excess of inferior goods hardly makes the old textile collection profitable. Only products such as cleaning flaps or insulation materials come from these almost worthless textiles. The municipal waste management therefore urges the Mainz to rethink their consumption behavior and to acquire less quality clothing. If you want to find out more about this, you can visit the current exhibition "This works! Sustainably and live" by October 30th at www.inrlp.de .
