Comet Tsuchinshan-Atlas about Mainz: Himmelszauber for everyone!
Klein-Winternheim, Deutschland - On Saturday evening, astronomy fans experienced a spectacular heavenly event in Mainz: the comet C2023 A3, better known as Tsuchinshan-Atlas, finally exposed itself in the night sky. Well over 4.5 billion years old, this cosmic hiker has attracted the eyes of the scientists and sky observers since his discovery in January 2023. For many it was an outstanding moment when the clouds finally cleared and the comet between the gaps became visible.
Despite unfavorable weather conditions and a density of opaque clouds, numerous visitors gathered at the Paul Baumann Staring of the Astronomical Working Group Mainz (AAG). The astronomers learned fascinating stories about meteorite and the origins of the universe. And the patience paid off: At 9:30 p.m., the comet was finally admired by telescopes and binoculars. Until October 25, 2024, this celestial body will be visible in the evening sky, perfectly placed near the striking evening star Venus. If you want to marvel at it without aids, you should prepare for clear nights and choose the best viewing places. You can find Details of this event in a comprehensive report on mainzund.de .
