Mainz cheers: 0 euro Saturday brings 20,000 additional passengers!

Since July, Mainz has been offering a sensational offer every first Saturday of the month: free driving by bus and tram! The first feedback from city and retail are consistently positive. The Mainz has already benefited from the offer four times on this so-called 0-euro Saturday, and the numbers speak for themselves: In September alone, around 20,000 passengers used public transport compared to the previous year, which corresponds to an increase of 20 percent, as managing director Florian Wiesemann of the Mainz Verkehrsgesellschaft reported.

The Mainz city tip is enthusiastic and emphasizes the attractiveness of local public transport. Mayor Nino Haase emphasizes that the high use also leads to an upswing for retail and gastronomy. The first chairman of the Mainz advertising community, Annette Plachetka, confirms that significantly more customers were in the shops. However, this is not only a simple profit for retail: traffic department Janina Steinkrüger also sees advantages for the environment in the increased passenger number, since emissions can be reduced through the use of public transport. It remains to be seen whether the offer will continue beyond the planned period until June 2025, as reports www.swr.de .
