Moguntia celebrates 100 years of the cathedral museum: a treasure of Mainz shines!
Kreuzgang des Mainzer Doms, Mainz, Deutschland - On June 12th, the episcopal cathedral and diocesan museum in Mainz celebrates its 100th anniversary. Originally opened in 1925, the museum increased from 208 to over 30,000 exhibits and is one of the five largest diocesan museums in Germany. The treasury, which was reopened in 2018 after renovation work and presented valuable pieces such as liturgical vessels and bishops insignia, is particularly impressive.
For the celebration of the anniversary, one year full of events and five special exhibitions is prepared. The first exhibition "Inside! Views Mainz churches around 1800" opens on October 30, 2024. This shows for the first time rediscovered pictures of Mainz churches and gives a detailed insight into the historical interior. Overall, there are other exhibitions on the plan in the coming months that will illuminate the history of the museum and the city. The celebrations promise to inspire Mainz and guests alike, with creative offers, concerts and special events for the whole family. Further information is available on mainzund.de .
