The importance of speed controls

In the Rhein-Neckar region, current speed controls attract attention. Police director Frank Hartmannsgruber, who is at the head of the Mannheim traffic police inspection, emphasizes the urgency of such measures: "The too high speed remains the main cause of fatalities. Last year 28 people lost their lives through speed overruns in Mannheim, Heidelberg and the Rhein-Neckar district." These frightening numbers make it clear that targeted controls are essential to increase safety on our streets.

results of the speed control week

During an intensive week for speed monitoring, a total of 3,073 traffic violations were documented. More than 80 % of these violations were up to 20 km/h above the permissible limit. Nevertheless, 45 road users were recorded, which drove too quickly, i.e. over 40 km/h, and thus have to adjust to an impending ban on driving. A driver was caught within closed towns who also committed this dangerous speed.

insights into the technology and areas of application

The police used the entire range of measurement technology during these controls and covered both urban areas as well as motorways and rural regions with their officials. The controls were not only selected, but also included the entire area of responsibility, which underlines the high relevance and necessity of such measures. Compared to the previous year, when 3,038 speed overruns were found, the increasing number of violations shows that there is an ongoing need for action to ensure traffic safety.

Enlightenment and prevention for the community

The initiative of the police aims not only to punish, but also to draw attention to the dangers of the speed of speed. Especially at a time when road traffic is increasing, it is important to sharpen the awareness of the drivers. The police hope that regular checks help to influence the behavior of drivers sustainably and thus reduce the number of traffic accidents.

outlook on future measures

The Mannheim police will continue and intensify their controls in the future. "We have to communicate the risk of excessive speed and even have innovative measures," says Hartmannsgruber. The protection of life and health of road users is always the top priority.
