Every ninth suffer: alarming depression numbers in MV unveiled!

In 2022, every ninth inhabitant suffered from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania from depression, as the new "Health Atlas Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania shows depression". A total of around 170,000 people were affected. Women, who suffered particularly frequently, in whom every seventh (14.3 percent) received a diagnosis of depression, while only every twelfth (8.1 percent) was affected in men. Psychologist Sylvia Böhme from AOK Nordost noticed that women not only fall ill more often, but also seek professional help.

The study also reveals an alarming increase in nurses who have been on sick leave above average due to depression. Around 19 sick reports came to 100 specialists, which is four times more than the average in MV. Regionally there are significant differences, with the highest rates in the districts of Vorpommern-Rügen (12.1 percent) and Northwest Mecklenburg (11.9 percent). This data is based on the accounts of around 370,000 AOK insured persons in the region. For more information, see the report www.ndr.de .
