New wolf pack in Stern Buchholz: 19 packs now confirmed in MV!
Stern Buchholz, Deutschland - In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a new wolf pack has settled. According to the Ministry of the Environment, the pack was discovered in the Stern Buchholz region near Schwerin. Experts have evaluated photo traps that show two old wolves and probably seven puppies. The Environment Ministry officially confirmed that 19 wolf packs in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have been proven to exist.
Overall, the number of wolves in the region is estimated at up to 180. Although the wolf is still a strictly protected species, grazing animals and associations require regulation of the inventory because of the increasing attacks on sheep, cattle and horses. At the EU level, a lowering of protection status is already being discussed. In this context, Commission President of the Leyen also advocates wolf management that takes regional conditions into account. More details on this development are in the report of www.ndr.de to be found.
