State funding: This is how Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania supports its farmers!

Almost half of the 4,750 farms in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has received state funding for rural development in the past three years, according to the state's statistical office. On average, 2,140 agricultural companies used these programs each year, with 1,810 farm owners requesting money for agricultural environment and climate measures. The difference between small and large companies is significant: only 12 percent of small businesses with up to 20 hectares submitted applications, while 64 percent of large companies claimed over 500 hectares.

For the funding period 2023 to 2027, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are available 653 million euros from the European Agricultural Fund, which together with national co-financing means a total of 956.5 million euros for rural areas. In addition, farmers receive direct payments from Brussels, who made up around 311 million euros last year. Despite all the challenges, agriculture in MV also sees positive developments: around 400 young farmers received state help every year for their restart in the industry. Around 16,000 people are currently employed in the country's agriculture, a decline in over 70,000 since 1991. Details on the figures and funding are in a report on www.wismar.fm treated.
