Bauhaus University Weimar starts ten projects for a greener future!

In today's world, cities are facing a variety of challenges, including adapting to climate change and creating sustainable habitats. The bauhaus-Unversität Weimar Your theme year "Beyond Now" launched ten innovative projects that open up new perspectives on these questions. These projects will be realized between April 2025 and March 2026 and aim to integrate students, researchers and civil society into a dialogue about sustainable urban design, artistic research and experimental science communication.

Creative approaches should address social challenges such as the urgently needed sustainable development. A central goal of these projects is to create new perspectives on relationships between humans and environment

large number of projects

The selected projects include a wide range, whereby each project offers unique perspectives and solutions:

  • science, bitch! - Design for science communication : Under the direction of Masihne Rasuli, students learn to convey scientific knowledge creatively.
  • Weimar city talks - Urban environmental : A project by Dr. Elodie Vittu, who continues the discussion about the social design of urban spaces and integrates experts and citizens.
  • Inviting Environments : Led by Margarita Osipova, this project examines digital technologies to strengthen the sense of community in urban areas.

climate change and urban challenges

The need to make urban spaces more climate -friendly is underpinned by alarming statistics. According to the WHO, around 166,000 people died worldwide between 1998 and 2017 due to heat waves. This number illustrates the urban heat island effect, which is reinforced by structural sealing and difficult air circulation. Therefore, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft actively in research and development of adaptation measures to reduce heat in cities.

These measures include the creation of green areas, the establishment of fresh air and shading to improve the urban climate. The focus is on evidence -based plans and urban climate simulations that enable cities to select and implement effective solutions to reduce overheating.

The projects of the Bauhaus University Weimar are an integral part of this process by promoting new ideas and approaches that go beyond the limits of traditional urban design.
