Mitte, Deutschland - The future town hall in Berlin-Mitte takes on forms. In a decision that was made public on April 17, 2025, the jury, under the direction of architect Birgit Rapp, chose the draft of

a milestone for the district office

The district councilor from Mitte, Ephraim Gothe, described the draft as a milestone for the district. The concept received positive feedback not only from the jury, but also from the experts for the free facilities. The new building is built on the northern part of the "House of Statistics" site.

Various facilities are planned in the new town hall, including a library, a canteen and areas for changing exhibitions. The parliamentary hall, which is supposed to act as the heart of the building and offers space for the district council, is particularly emphasized. Gothe noted that the design also reflects a concrete architectural picture from the spatial program.

Future -oriented plans

The competition began in August 2024 and in the first phase of a total of 157 designs were selected, which are to be further developed by the participating architects in a second phase. This phase includes close cooperation with specialist disciplines such as landscape architecture and structural planning to put the draft into practice. According to a press release from the April 2025, followed by a public citizens' event. All submitted designs are to be presented to a general public in the summer of 2025 to ensure transparency and participation in the planning process.

Competitions like this play an important role in the design of the building culture in Berlin, as well as the February 27, 2025 . The organizers emphasized that such competitions create reliable foundations for future urban development.
