EU directive: strict fluid controls back at Stuttgart Airport

EU directive: strict fluid controls back at Stuttgart Airport

Travelers who look forward to relaxed air travel must once again accept some restrictions. Despite the assumption that the strict rules for liquids have finally been relaxed in hand luggage, the old regulation applies again from September 1, 2023. This regulation comes at the behest of the EU and affects all passengers that drove from one of the airports within the Union.

The new specifications state that liquids are still only allowed in containers of a maximum of 100 milliliters in hand luggage, only in a transparent 1-liter zip bag. This adaptation represents a step backwards after many airports have already launched the hygiene measures via modern CT scanner. However, the EU authorities expressed concerns about the reliability of these new scanner systems, which now led to this U -turn. In addition to the liquid restrictions, passengers also have to take laptops out of their pockets before the security controls pass.

economic effects and immunity of travel

The return to the old rules causes resentment among travelers. In particular at Stuttgart Airport, numerous passengers have cleared their outrage. Some describe the situation as "to throw up" because they were looking forward to a more uncomplicated flight. The regulation affects every passenger, no matter where the goal is in Europe. All of this could cause passengers to pay more attention to how they put their liquids when packing their suitcases.

The federal police, which is responsible for safety at the airports, actively informs about these new regulations and makes it clear that nothing will change for medication and baby food. These exceptions are still valid and offer a small ray of hope for travelers with special needs. Nevertheless, packing remains a challenge for most passengers.

The systematic shortening of freedom when packing can significantly impair travel comfort. More and more passengers see it as advisable to stow their liquids in the large suitcases in order to go through the security controls more smoothly. This could be particularly important for those who like to bring their own snacks and drinks on trips. Another aspect is the possible impact of this regulation on international trips, where longer flights and longer waiting times often require carrying liquids.

It remains to be seen how long these regulations will apply and whether security technology at airports can be improved in the near future to ensure more relaxed travel experience. The discussion about these strict regulations will certainly continue and could lead to alternatives to be developed to enable passengers to travel more comfortably.
