Leutkirch starts sustainable heat transition: New lease signed signed

in Leutkirch, a new era starts in heat supply. Mayor Hans-Jörg Henle and the management of Kaufwärmelagen GmbH have taken an important step towards sustainable urban development by recently signing a lease contract for the new district heating network. This significant agreement ensures that the city has the immense chance of making its energy supply more ecological.

The model stipulates that the district heating network is completely built up by the city of Leutkirch. In return, Kundwärmanlagen GmbH will operate the network for 30 years and be responsible for heat supply. The expansion initially takes place in the western part of Leutkirch, with several streets, including Hermann-Neuner-Straße and Wangener and Beiselstraße, being connected to the new network. New development areas and commercial areas are also integrated into this comprehensive project, which promises a modern and future -proof infrastructure.

sustainable heat supply in planning

parallel to the network expansion, an expansion of heat generation is required. At the moment, regional wood chips and warmth from the Gailile biogas plant are mainly used. In the future, these methods will be supplemented by the warmth of the Frener biogas plant and industrial waste heat from companies such as Pfleiderer. In addition, a heat storage with a volume of six million liters is created in a new industrial area, which is intended to help secure heat supply even in difficult times.

The long -term goal is to increase the use of district heating to four times by 2030. Already now 84 percent of the district heating used in Leutkirch are obtained from renewable sources. With the new partners and other sustainable measures, this proportion could even increase to over 90 percent - a committed step towards climate neutrality. A major advantage of ecological district heating in Leutkirch is that price adjustments will be based more on regional heat generation methods instead of the increases of the prices of fossil fuels.

The Leutkirch model stands out in a context in which many German cities fall back on fossil fuels. This is where the city relies on an environmentally friendly and sustainable energy supply, which benefits not only the environment but also the domestic economy. The lease agreement between the city and KAUSWärmeanlagen GmbH is a solid basis for the next decades and is expected to invest an investment of around 40 million euros to achieve the goals set.

These news from Leutkirch show that progress and sustainability can go hand in hand. It remains to be seen how quickly the measures will be implemented and how quickly the citizens will feel the advantages of the new district heating. The lease is not only a sign of economic growth, but also an important step towards a sustainable and resilient energy future. The city has proven that it is willing to take responsibility and to make real changes.
