The future of the Memmingen-Nord commercial area: higher, green, modern

The city administration of Memmingen recently decided that higher buildings may be built in the commercial area Nord. Instead of the previous maximum height of 16 meters, up to 20 meters are now allowed. This step is intended to help save more space and to ensure an orderly development of the commercial area.

An important innovation concerns the greening of commercial buildings. In the future, new buildings will have to have green roofs with a substrate layer of at least eight centimeters. Underground garages outside of development areas must be covered with at least 60 centimeters. In addition, PV systems are to be installed in combination with green roofs in order to promote sustainable energy generation. The faith greening of windowless sections is also mandatory.

Another aspect concerns the advertising pylons in the commercial area north. These can now also be up to 20 meters high, but they must not be designed in flashing. In addition, it was stipulated that they are not allowed to cause light pollution in order to avoid the distraction of drivers on the surrounding roads.

A step towards modernization and sustainability

The decision of the city council of Memmingen to increase the restrictions on the height in the commercial area and at the same time issue stricter regulations for greening and lighting design is an important step towards modernization and sustainability. Due to the increased vertical development and the promotion of green areas, better use of the existing space is to be made possible and the quality of life in the area is to be improved.
