After over two years of absence, Kaufland returns to Merzig! Mayor Marcus Hoffeld announced on Thursday, October 24, 2024, that the talks between Kaufland and the property owners were successfully completed. Thanks to intensive negotiations, which were difficult by complex property and contractual relationships, nothing stands in the way of returning the popular discounter. Hoffeld was relieved and assured that this agreement will bring an improvement in the purchasing situation for the citizens of Merzig.

Kaufland plans to revitalize the central inner city entrance area with a large shopping market, whereby the first planes are to be presented promptly to the city administration. These plans must then be approved in the urban committees, probably in early 2025, in a development plan procedure. Citizens are invited to actively participate in the process.
