Unemployment in the Mettmann district: increase and new opportunities in August

In August 2024, the district of Mettmann has to struggle with an increase in the unemployment number. This was announced by the Employment Agency, the people who have now registered a total of 18,876 unemployed people. A comparison with the previous month of July shows that this means an increase of 124 people or 0.7 percent. In addition, the number has increased by 1,775 people in the year, which corresponds to an increase of 8.9 percent. The unemployment rate in the district increased from 7.1 percent in July to 7.2 percent, while it was 6.6 percent in the previous year. Karl Tymister, the head of the agency, explains that the labor market is still influenced by challenging economic framework, which has contributed to this trend.

However, the situation not only shows negative aspects. According to Tymister, there is also positive progress, especially in the area of youth unemployment, which has decreased contrary to the general trend. Many new trainees have quickly found a connection employment, which gives hope for the future. "Despite the economic uncertainty, the need for skilled workers remains high in many industries," said Tymister. In the nursing industry in particular, there is an acute lack of qualified staff. In order to show people in this industry new perspectives, the employment agency organizes an event, the "nursing talk", which takes place on Wednesday, September 4, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Hilden job center. In the city of Mettmann, the number of unemployment is also increasing in an increasing light. There are currently 1,289 people unemployed here, which means an increase of 21 people compared to July. The unemployment rate increased from 6.1 percent in July to 6.2 percent. Compared to the previous year, the quota was 5.9 percent in August 2023.

The city of Erkrath sees a stable unemployment rate of 8.1 percent, identical to the previous month, but compared to 7.8 percent a year ago. The employers in Mettmann and Erkrath reported 129 new jobs, but three less than in the same period of the previous year, so that 552 vacancies are currently registered in Mettmann, which represents an increase of 100 per year.
