Disinformation expose: Free course at the VHS Mettmann-Wülfrath
The importance of media literacy in times of disinformation
Mettmann - in a world in which information is spread in seconds, the ability to recognize and avoid disinformation is becoming increasingly important. This topic is the focus of a new course that is offered in the Volkshochschule (VHS) Mettmann-Wülfrath. In cooperation with the State Institute for Media North Rhine -Westphalia, on three evenings, it is conveyed on how you can better orient yourself in the flood of information.
insights into the course content
During the course, which takes place on Tuesday, September 3, and Monday, September 9th and September 16, from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the participants will be trained in various techniques and methods of research. The goal is to put the participants into a position to distinguish serious from dubious sources. This includes, among other things, a fact check that enables the participants to critically question statements and to specifically identify disinformation.
disinformation - a complex phenomenon
disinformation can often occur in a hidden form: be it through targeted false reports, the abandoning of relevant information or by the conscious mixing of facts with fiction to pursue a specific purpose. This topic is thoroughly illuminated in the course and the participants learn how different media - from texts to images to videos - are used to spread incorrect information.
innovative teaching methods in the blended learning
The course is designed as a blended learning format that combines traditional teaching methods with modern online learning modules from the MedienBox NRW. This innovative combination is intended to create a varied and effective learning environment. As a result, participants are able to expand their knowledge in both the presence form and digitally.
