FDP Mettmann: Thomas Sterz nominated as a candidate for mayor in 2025

A new era begins for the FDP in Mettmann. At her party congress on September 7, 2024, Thomas Sterz was unanimously nominated as a candidate for mayor for the upcoming local elections in autumn 2025. This decision was not accidental, because exactly a year later, on September 7, 2025, there are important elections in North Rhine-Westphalia, which will decide on the future leadership of many cities.

The atmosphere of the party congress was shaped by anticipation and optimism, especially because the Mettmann Liberals combined the event with their summer festival at the picturesque Goldberger Mühle. Andrea Metz, the local association chairman, explained the election of the date as well thought -out and meaningful, while she was infected by those present with the positive mood of the festival.

Thomas Sterz: A friend in Mettmann

The 56-year-old Thomas Sterz has already made a name for himself in Mettmann. At the last local election in autumn 2020, he started for the first time and achieved almost 30 % of the votes in his constituency on Goldberg. Since then he has represented the FDP in the city council of Mettmann and is actively involved in various specialist committees. Sterz emphasizes how important it is to be available to the citizens and to incorporate their concerns into the political discussions.

His political commitment goes far beyond the city limits. Last year he also competed as a candidate in the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia and achieved an above-average result. These positions not only strengthen his political career, but also that of the FDP in the region.

Communication is a central concern for Sterz. "In many personal conversations, I learned that the citizens appreciate my accessibility and direct dialogue," he explains. Before he devoted himself to politics, he was responsible for communicating the Kamps bakery chain and is currently heading a branch of the Targobank. His professional experiences flow into his political work, especially with regard to the exchange with the citizens.

commitment to the municipality

his heart beats for the city of Mettmann. Born in Münster and grew up in Düsseldorf, he has lived with his husband on the Mettmann city forest since 2016. Sterz has actively contributed to numerous projects that are supposed to improve life in his community. This includes the inclusion of additional bus connections for students, the introduction of the yellow bin for waste separation and the organization of Martin's parades.

The team game is important to Sterz. He explains that the close, trusting cooperation between the faction, the board and the members of the local association will be decisive for his success as a candidate for mayor. "For me, the nomination is also recognized by the joint efforts and the team idea," he emphasizes.

His private life also plays a role in the announcement of his candidacy. The Goldberger Mühle has a sentimental meaning for him because he married René there with his husband. Sterz sees the nomination as the beginning of a new phase of life and emphasizes how important this linking of personal and political commitment is.
