Increase in shoplifting in Mönchengladbach: Trade Association warns of a high number of unreported cases

rising shoplifting strain Mönchengladbach

in Mönchengladbach, the number of shoplifting is concerned with questionable, as the trade association and the police report. Although fewer thefts are officially reported, the police point out that the number of unreported cases could be significantly higher.

A special accumulation of thefts can be observed, especially in downtown Rheydt and along Hindenburgstrasse in Gladbach, according to the current reports of the trade association. Almost 3,000 shoplifting steels were reported last year, which corresponds to an increase of almost 30 percent compared to the previous year. Around 780 shoplifting steels have already been displayed by the end of May this year.

The trade association suspects, however, that the actual number of thefts are even higher, since smaller offenses in particular are often not even displayed. According to observations of the association, the motivation behind the thefts is often in procurement crime, which is also associated with the growing number of homeless and drug addicts.

It is therefore urgently appealed to report every theft in order to obtain a realistic picture of the crime situation and to take effective measures for prevention. The rising shoplifting steels are not only a burden for retailers, but also for the entire community in Mönchengladbach. An increased cooperation between the trade association, the police and the local population is therefore essential to counteract this trend and to ensure the security in the city.
