Project Language exchange: Gabarret welcomes Spanish students

in French Gabarret, the private Collège Saint-Jean Bosco recently started its fourth year of the popular linguistic exchange project with Spain. Since September 2, right at the beginning of the new school year, seven students from Saragossa, Spain, have visited the French students in Gabarret. This project, which was launched in 2021, has recognized its success in the past three years and is again very popular.

The Spanish exchange students include five girls and two boys who work with their French partners. The young people not only have the opportunity to deepen their language skills, but also to make new friendships. The Spanish students, among them Sara Anzano and Ariadna Oró, experience French school life up close. The French students - Mehloé Ibanez, Camille de Bortoli and others - can also look forward to an exciting time.

a unique exchange

In contrast to many other language projects, which are often less intense, this exchange offers a complete linguistic immersion. According to Aubert Cruchon, one of the people responsible for the exchange, the students are fully integrated into the respective language both during class and the host families. During the day, the Spanish students learn together with their French classmates while they live with their host families in the evening and at the weekend.

Andrés Girela, the project coordinator and Spanish teacher, reported that the students spent the time in the respective home countries during the summer vacation. This innovative approach not only contributed to the fact that stronger bonds have already arisen before the actual exchange, but also that the families were intensively involved in both directions. "We thank the families for their commitment, which is crucial for the success of the project," says Girela.

This form of exchange has proven to be extremely valuable, since the stay in a host family enables the students to overcome everyday language and cultural barriers. During the three months that Spanish students spend in Gabarret, they have the opportunity to fully get to know both the language and French culture. Apart from lessons, they experience French traditions and customs.

The ongoing success of this exchange program speaks for itself. Those responsible are already planning to continue to use this tried and tested model. Thanks to the committed employees of both schools and the hospitable families, this exchange will continue to remain a valuable instrument for promoting language skills and international friendships in the future.

With the fourth edition that has already started and the positive response, it can be seen that the linguistic exchange between Gabarret and Saragossa not only benefits the students, but also to the families and schools. This year's project again promises to bring many enriching experiences and to promote intercultural communication between France and Spain.
