Tradition meets diversity: The new Oktoberfest beers of the Munich breweries 2024

On September 5, 2024, beer lovers and interested parties had the opportunity to taste this year's Oktoberfest beer from Paulaner and Hacker-Pschorr on the terrace of the picturesque Seehaus in the English Garden. This event, in which the two renowned Munich breweries presented their creations, is considered an important tradition and attunement to the largest folk festival in the world, which begins on September 21, 2024.

The master brewers of the two traditional breweries, Christian Dahnke von Paulaner and Rainer Kansy from Hacker-Pschorr, proudly presented their latest beers. This year the Hacker-Pschorr Wiesnbier will experience a premiere: for the first time, this special beer is also offered in bottles, even in stylish ironing bottles. Before that, the beer was only to be enjoyed at the Oktoberfest.

beer test and exciting new developments

In the beer test at the Seehaus, Rainer Kansy introduced the Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest beer, which impresses with its emphasized hop flower and a full-bodied body. "It is characterized by a maltaromatic note and has a harmonious reverberation," says Kansy. His counterpart, Christian Dahnke from Paulaner, also emphasized the special features of his beer: "The Paulaner Oktoberfest beer is golden yellow, full -bodied and can be drinked comfortably. It shows the perfect balance between malty and hoppy notes."

The brewers attach great importance to quality when manufacturing, which is reflected in the tradition of the Munich purity bid of 1487. At least 13.6 percent of main worts are mandatory for the Oktoberfestbiere to guarantee the typical, strong taste.

For the Munich breweries, the Oktoberfest time plays a crucial role: about six million guests flock to the festival every year, and up to six million liters of beer flow into thirsty throats. A significant part of it, namely up to six percent of the total beer emissions of the city, consists of Oktoberfest beer, a third of which is consumed directly on the festival.

beer, which is served at the Oktoberfest, must come from one of the six Munich traditional breweries - a regulation confirmed by the Munich I district court in 1990. The beer is always brewed fresh to the Oktoberfest, and each brewery brings its own note and special feature into the production to create an unmistakable product.

The long history of Hacker-Pschorr at the Oktoberfest, which goes back to 1830, is also interesting. The brewery has produced numerous innovations over the years and is still proud and tradition today, especially in the famous "hacker festival" and the "Bräurosl".

The Paulan Oktoberfest beer is available in both trade and in various large and small tents at the Oktoberfest. The close attachment of Paulaner to the city of Munich is symbolized not only by the quality of the beer, but also by the iconic Paulaner tower with the great pitcher.

For festival goers, the anticipation for this year's Oktoberfest and the first -class beers of the Munich breweries remains unbroken. An unmistakable aroma and the high quality of this tradition will make the hearts of beer lovers beat faster once again. The brewery restaurants are a real attraction during the Oktoberfest and promise unforgettable moments in a convivial atmosphere.
