From Commissioner to the emergency doctor: Mark-Alexander Solfs new role in Munich

In the world of film and television actors, it is not uncommon for some to dare to jump into other professions. A remarkable example of this is Mark-Alexander Solf, who is known to many as Commissioner Sebastian König from the popular ZDF series "Die Rosenheim-Cops". But today he is no longer just a face in front of the camera; He has made an amazing change of career and is now practicing as a doctor in Munich.

The ZDF crime series "The Rosenheim Cops", which has been broadcast since 2002, has seen numerous actors come and go over the years. Mark-Alexander Solf performed as a criminal investigator in season 14 and delighted the audience. However, what many do not know is that his career as an actor was not his only passion - medicine had also done it.

the career of a multi-tasker

Already at the age of 19, Solf was one of the actors in the RTL series "Medicopter 117-Every life counts". His acting studies at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich from 2003 to 2007 gave him numerous smaller roles in series such as "Die Emptungflieger" and "Our Charly". But during this time Solf also made plans for an alternative career path. "Plan B" seemed important to him how he told in an interview with the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

When he was hired at the Munich residence theater in 2007, he set up a "gentlemen’s agree" with the artistic director Dieter Dorn, which allowed him to continue to pursue his medical training. "That was very modern at the time," recalled Solf, emphasizing the flexibility that was offered to him.

a decision between acting and medicine

When he finally took on the role of the commissioner in "The Rosenheim Cops", Solf already juggled between two professions: he also worked as an anesthetist in a Munich clinic. The challenge of reconciling both passions was not easy. When a new offer from the Großhadern Clinic was on the table, he made a decision: he decided on medicine. "It is a good feeling that you can help someone immediately," said his comment on this choice.

Today, as an emergency doctor, he flies with the helicopter over the rooftops of Munich and seems to feel completely comfortable in his new environment. Nevertheless, he did not quite cancel the connection to acting: in 2023 he had a guest appearance in the series "Hubert without Staller", which shows that he did not completely leave the world of television behind.

SOLF describes that emergency medicine and anesthesia are very important to him. "I rarely think back to the acting profession," he explains, which shows how much he focused on his medical career. However, the fans of the "Rosenheim-Cops" do not have to worry: from October a new season will start that will once again draw the viewers aware of his former colleagues.

The step from acting to medicine is unusual and impressive for many. Mark-Alexander Solf embodies what is called a "real all-rounder". His example shows that it is possible to pursue dreams and at the same time live other passions. Whether as an actor or doctor - his commitment and devotion to both careers are admirable.

So it remains to be hoped that Mark-Alexander Solf will continue to shine both on the medical and the acting stage, and that one day he will perhaps be seen again in the role of the commissioner who made him so popular.
